For movie lovers and red carpet afficionados, The Academy Awards is the most important day of the year. And while we’ve been to watch parties at bars and restaurants, and even our friends’ homes, this year we’re staying in. And throwing our own party! It’s simple, casual, and lets us focus on the main event. Plus, we have a few quick tips for easy ways to make your Oscars party pop, without a ton of hassle.
Pick a decorative centerpiece
There are plenty of cute printable Oscars themed ballots, glitter confetti and more at party stores this time of year. And while we would never shy away from glitter, it’s more cost effective to grab a decorative touch that will last past Oscar Sunday. Every girl loves getting flowers, but if you want something that can really draw the eye and add some perfect drama to your day, choose Kalla. They have arrangements for every great love story, including the Hollywood classic Carole & Clark, but we love the Athena & Artemis for this time of year!
Keep your recipes simple
It’s a common New Years Resolution to actually MAKE some of those Pinterest recipes on your boards, and this is the perfect time to test it out! But now is not the time to make your first quiche or flambe a dessert because it will only add more stress to your day. Pick simple recipes with fresh ingredients, like a cold orzo salad or brie and asparagus crostinis (this one has ham too). With short lists of ingredients and easy to share plating, dishes like these are both classy and easy.
Use color wherever you can
Dishes with fresh produce also add color to the table. Veggies like asparagus or the cherry tomatoes in the orzo salad make the dishes more appealing to the eye (and the palette). Your colorful centerpiece also adds a nice pop, but for an unexpected dose of color you can also add it in your dishes. We love the lines from Rachael Ray from Target as well as Cheeky Home.
Offer a variety of drinks
While The Oscars would typically evoke a champagne vibe, not everyone is a fan of the bubbly (shocking we know!) so having a wide range of drinks is important to cater to all your guests. While we definitely recommend having champagne on hand, there will always be those on hand trying to count calories so having a low cal version of drinks is key. We recently found Slim Lizzy’s, which 80 calories per can and come in two refreshing, ready-made cocktail types – the Margarita and Cosmopolitan! Both taste like the real deal – without the real calories!
If you’re into crafting your own bar cart cocktails, we have a recipe you’ll love, courtesy of Ciroc; their Pineapple Mimosa, garnished with a pineapple wedge:
1 oz Ciroc Pineapple
.5 oz Lemon Juice
.5 oz Orange Juice
.5 oz Pineapple Juice
.5 oz Honey Syrup
Make your clean-up easy
Another reason we love Cheeky Home products is: they’re disposable! Super cute and super easy to use, then throw away when the (usually very long) ceremony is over. Though we usually recommend giving up on the idea of clean-up until the morning after a party, but with disposable plate and glassware, your work is minimal and can be done that night. Then, you’re the real winner…
