With all of the snow and freezing weather we’ve been having in Boston lately, more than ever I’m missing how easy it is to take care of my hair in the summer (what’s better than perfect beachy waves and sun-kissed highlights with little effort!) Winter hair can be much harder to maintain, because the cold, wind, and dry indoor heating makes it lose moisture much quicker than usual. If your hair is in need of a little TLC, make sure to check out these winter hair tips, and your hair will be healthy again in no time.
Winter dries out your locks, and washing your hair everyday strips them of the natural oils that keep your hair from drying out. Try and wash your hair every other day instead and end your shower with a cold rinse to lock in the moisture. On the off days, use a dry shampoo like this one to get rid of any excess oil.
Make sure you’re using a cleansing conditioner like this one (trust me, it will be your best friend in the winter). It’s also good to try a leave in conditioner when you need a little extra moisture. This one is my favorite because it doesn’t leave your hair feeling weighed down.
Try and let your hair dry naturally every once and awhile. If you have to dry it, make sure to not over-dry, this will just damage your hair and cause it to look frizzy.
Before blow drying your hair, make sure you’re using a heat-protecting serum as a barrier against the heat. This one from Drybar, also stops frizz, so your hair will be bouncy and smooth.
Grab a cute beanie or wide brimmed hat to protect your hair from the cold. It not only looks cute, but it will lock in the moisture and save your roots from any cold-weather related breakage.
