February is all about the “L” word; and since home is where the heart is, we want you to love your space too. We’re stoked to be pairing up with Update Interiors (everyone in the Chicagoland area: you need to check their store out- obsession is an understatement), a boutique in Oak Park dedicated to taking your space to the next level, whether a renovation or just a small update. Ranging from centerpieces like a statement couch, to a few modern accessories to brighten an attention-grabbing piece, Update Interiors has it all- and offers a wide variety of price points.
I was lucky enough to speak with Barbara Bernick, décor expert at Update Interiors, to get the 4-1-1 on the latest and greatest in the home furnishing industry moving into 2015. It’s never too late to transform your living space and with these four trends, your humble abode can be renovated into a modern mecca perfect for entertaining in no time!
.TREND 1: MIXED METALS
Mixing metals is a unique and transformative way to contrast elements of warm and cold. While it might seem counterintuitive, by pairing several pieces together (think anything from pillows to candleholders or even silverware- we can get creative here!), the metals will serve as subtle and pretty juxtaposition to create a modern look like Barbara did above.
TREND 2: SMOKY GLASS
This second trend really speaks to the “what’s old is new again,” expression. Smoky glass is making a notable comeback as it’s a perfect way to infuse art into your unique space. While less functional, it’s easy to mix up this trend as a centerpiece, or simply a decorative accent on a bookshelf. Update interiors has this stunning piece that makes me want to ditch the Cosmos currently adorning my coffee table with something a little more smoky…
TREND 3: NATURAL MOTIFS
Organic is no longer applicable solely to food! Incorporating natural materials into your décor is on the rise, as it works easy with several design aesthetics, like a rustic look, or even modern, since these pieces have the power to create a beautiful contrast. Even better? This trend is easy to incorporate into pieces you already own. As an example, Barbara cites these faux succulents and moss in terrariums as an easy and gorgeous way to put this 2015 trend to work in her space.
TREND 4: COLOR
Color is always trending, and in 2015 it’s going beyond your closet and morphing its way into the rest of your home. I’m always going to gravitate towards turquoise, and lucky for me, the blue color palette is more popular than ever. Barbara loves incorporating pretty hues of blue via small items like this picture frame and these aluminum trays for a pop of color in an otherwise neutral room.
And if that wasn’t enough to convince you to update your space, please reap all the inspiration that the above adorable pup pillows have to offer. Happy decorating!
