If you took a poll of every girl’s closet around the world, you’d probably find that most of us have one thing in common– at least one striped shirt, whether it be a simple black and white long sleeve, or a nautical themed blouse, you have to admit striped tees are one of those pieces you always seem to have. We can thank Coco Chanel for that, as the iconic designer was the first one to introduce the Breton striped shirt to the world in her 1917 collection. She was so inspired by the French Navy’s uniform that she wanted to incorporate the design into womenswear pieces. Little did she know that it would become such a closet staple for decades to come.
If I’m ever looking for a classic piece to wear to work or a dinner with friends, I grab a striped tee, a blazer, and I’m out the door. While a striped tee might be a little easier to style than a striped pantsuit, there’s always a way to incorporate some stripes into your style. To get some inspiration for the rest of my summer and upcoming fall wardrobe, here are 20 looks from bloggers and street style experts –whether they’re rocking a pair of striped wide-legs or mix and matching stripes they’ve got the look down pat.
1. On Top
A striped tee and skinnies with a little wedge or heel is one look that will never go out of style. If you’re looking for a little adventure try out a striped blazer over your favorite LBD (little black dress).
2. Mix and Match
So you’ve graduated from the basic striped tee look, and are now on to a more fashion-forward ensemble. These bloggers have the mix and match down to a [striped] tee (see what I did there) with their looks. The key is to keeping it simple–keep the accessories to a minimum so that the focus is on your killer style.
3. On the Bottom
Short girls everywhere rejoice, vertical striped pants are a must-have for anyone trying to give their legs a little length. Don’t forget to add a simple black and white heel to complete the look.
4. Going all out
If you’ve got the looks above down, your final step is the all out pantsuit. Striped Blazer, check. Striped plants, check. If you think that you can’t pull it off, just look at how effortlessly these lovely ladies styled the trend.
