We get it—it’s cold (and we’re not talking L.A. cold, we’re talking single digit temps here!) and the last thing you want to do when you get out of bed in the morning is think about your outfit. If you’re anything like me, this usually ends up with an ensemble straight out of the Adams family’s closet (aka black, black, and more black). And while I’d like to think my all black layered look teeters more on the side of MK&A boho chic than anything else, there’s no doubt that there’s a science behind staying warm and looking cute, especially when it comes to layering. So if you need a little inspiration, we’ll leave it to our favorite fashion bloggers to show you some killer outfits and how you can get them at home… instead of just lusting over them on your computer screen!
1. Do: add a P.O.C. (pop of color)
If the Chanel purse wasn’t enough to lust over, the pink vest definitely is.
2. Do: bundle up
Brooklyn Blonde knows the most important rule of winter dressing: layers!
3. Do: add a poncho
If a Louis Vuitton poncho isn’t in your budget, there’s no shortage of colorful frocks to substitute.
4. Do: keep it simple
A simple patterned jacket and basic pieces can make the perfect outfit (no bright colors required!)
5. Do: throw a scarf on it
Scarves are not only necessary (hellloo arctic like wind) but they’re also a great way to make a statement.
6. Do: shake it up
If a furry trench wasn’t already on your winter wish list, this style pic might just change your mind.
7. Do: pinstripes are a must
Mixing stripes is one of our favorite ways to mix it up this season.
8. Do: pick up a pair of harem pants
The Glamourai proves that harem pants + heeled booties = perfection.
9. Do: brimmed hats aren’t just for fashion bloggers
Anyone can sport this Vogue-approved look.
10. & 11. Do: know that cape coats never go out of style
Draping a jacket over your shoulder is the new (and easy) way to wear a coat.
12. Do: wear winter white
Think of it as 50 shades of [white].
13. Do: pair a fitted coat with an oversized one
As any girl that has experienced a Boston or Chicago winter knows, sometimes one coat just doesn’t cut it.
14. Do: belt it
If shapeless winter coats are getting you down, add a belt to define your waist.
15. Do: layer a vest over a mini dress
Think of it as a cold weather version of your favorite 70’s style icon.
16. Do: make it work for work
This winter approved ensemble is 100% office appropriate.
17. Do: borrow it from the boys
Whether it’s your boyfriend or your best guy friend, sneaking into their oversized sweaters is the best way to stay cozy.
18. Do: add some leather
While we’re no strangers to the leather pant trend, this outfit still give us major outfit envy.
19. Do: keep it casual
Beanies, military parkas, and ripped jeans… all part of man repeller style 101.
